Sports medicine is a subspecialty of orthopedic medicine with a focus on preventive care and the treatment of amateur and professional athletes participating in sports and exercise. The same principles can also be applied to provide comprehensive medical care for non-athletes who desire to increase their capabilities and mobility as well as those recovering from an acute or overuse injury who wish to return to their previous level of activity.
Dr. Patel has served as a team physician for the Brooklyn Nets (NBA), St. Louis Blues (NHL), and Iona College (NCAA). He understands that a solid partnership between the doctor and the patient is critical to developing an individualized recovery plan to return athletes to their games as quickly as possible and to help all patients achieve their desired activities – from playing with grandchildren to returning to the field as a pro athlete – after treatment.
